New York Adoption Attorneys

New York adoption is the legal process by which a child is placed with an unrelated adult or married adults, with said adults acquiring the rights and incurring the responsibilities of parent with respect to the child. This process not only establishes the rights of the adoptive parents, but serves to severing the parental rights and responsibilities of the birth parent(s).

The private placement adoption process is often complex and protracted. Between when you first select an adoption agency and file your initial petition for adoption, a period of three (3) to twelve (12) months can pass until the adoption itself is actually finalized. Rigorous due diligence is effectuated by New York State, including but not limited to an extensive interviewing process, background check, home study, training sessions and supervision. In addition, the process of securing the biological parents' written consent to the adoption process must also be effectuated, together with the preparation and filing of substantial paperwork.

All in all, New York adoption requires significant diligence, hard work and dedication. However, in the end, the successful adoption of a child or children can be one of the most rewarding, joyous occasion's in an individual's life.

Should you require assistance and expertise with regard to assisting you through the New York adoption law process, the adoption attorneys at Wand, Powers & Goody, LLP stand ready to serve you.
